Concept, feasibility & masterplanning study for the redevelopment of Doha Zoo in Qatar for the Public Works Authority
- Appointed through ASHGHAL, the Qatar Public Works Authority on behalf of His Excellency The Minister for Municipality and Planning
- 75 hectare site that includes the existing Doha Zoo operations
- Initial scope was for concept, feasibility study and masterplanning but was later extended to include
- the development of a detailed species list and habitat book for the new zoo and
- a welfare & relocation study for the animals at the existing zoo
- A range of development options were modeled around a redeveloped zoo, a safari experience, a dinosaur attraction, a children's farm, an indoor play centre, a themed hotel, commercial uses and other attractions
- The study identified a range of concepts costing US$ 100 million, US$ 250 million and US$ 500 million with the lower cost option becoming the basis for the subsequent design tender under which Doha Zoo is now being redeveloped
- Key achievements were the creation of an all year round concept and a "zoo in the park" approach rather than trying to develop a large, international zoo
